GMA's Food Ingredient Overhaul Not Enough To Fix GRAS, Advocates Say

The Grocery Manufacturers Association Wednesday (Aug. 27) launched an initiative aimed at revamping safety assessments of food ingredients -- an effort that food safety advocates say is not enough to fix core problems within the generally recognized as safe (GRAS) program. The announcement came the day before FDA separately said it would update its principles for assessing food ingredients.
