FDA Proposes Rescheduling Hydrocodone

Facing pressure from both lawmakers and the Drug Enforcement Administration, FDA said Thursday (Oct. 24) that it plans to recommend moving hydrocodone combination products, like Vicodin, from Schedule III to the more restrictive Schedule II. FDA drug center chief Janet Woodcock said the agency plans to finalize its formal recommendation to HHS to reclassify the drug by early December.
