Sen. Blumenthal, Rep. Pingree File Bill To Clear Up Food Date Labeling Confusion

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME) filed legislation in their respective chambers to create uniform date labels on food products in order to help clear up confusion among consumers and reduce food waste. The bill creates two terms, one for quality dates for foods that may began to deteriorate after the labeled date but are still safe to consume, and one for safety dates for foods that are unsafe to use after the expiration date.
