House Passes Senate's GMO Labeling Bill, President Expected To Sign Bill Into Law

The House voted 306-101 today (July 14) to pass a nationwide mandatory GMO labeling bill aimed at preempting a patchwork of state laws. A White House spokesperson has indicated President Obama will sign the bill into law. Backers of the legislation said there was some urgency to get it through the House before Congress recessed because Vermont has already enacted a stronger labeling rule with penalty provisions that go into effect in early 2017.
