An FDA official recently told food and farmer stakeholders that information technology (IT) challenges could "hinder" the agency's ability to become more risk-based and strategically focused under the preventive controls rules for human and animal food, which will be the first rules out under the Food Safety Modernization Act and are expected at the end of August.
